Death Summary: Stories vary on how Vlad was actually killed. Some believe he was killed in battle with the Ottoman Empire. Some believe he he was killed by one of his own men.

Stories seem to agree that his body was decapitated by the Turks and the Sultan of Istanbul preserved his head in honey and moonshine and kept it on display on a stake.

Who was Vlad III the Impaler : Vlad III the Impaler also known as Vlad Ţepeş, Vlad Dracula, and Dracula was the Prince of Wallachia reigning in 1448, from 1456-1462, and 1476.

His reign was a reign of terror according to many legends. He is said to have tortured and impaled thousands of men, women, and children on stakes.

Many of his atrocities are believed to be exaggerated in legend.

Vlad became inspiration in part for the character of Count Dracula in Bram Stoker's book (later popularized by Bela Lugosi's performances). Further inspiration was drawn from Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory.

The more I read the more I understand just how much Vlad III loved his country. Yes his method’s were gruesome–it was the 15th century–and put fear in the hearts of many. Fear, which is imperative to establish peace. He did what he felt must be done. As do all people in position of power.
