Who was Verne Orr : Orr was the 14th Secretary of the Air Force (1981 – 1985), appointed to the post by President Ronald Reagan.

After high school, Orr went to Pomona College where he was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa key. Later he earned his master’s degree in business administration from Stanford University in 1939.

Orr entered the United States Navy, and served during World War II, he reached the rank of lieutenant.

After his service Orr shifted around from working in his family’s car dealership to the investment business. In 1966 Governor Ronald Reagan selected Orr to become the director of the states Department of Motor Vehicles.

After his service to the state was over, Orr began teaching government finance at USC.
