Sherman Hemsley, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native, was a well-known actor and comedian from the 1970s and 1980s. His most well-known role was "George Jefferson" of the sitcoms All in the Family and The Jeffersons.

Prior to his roles on the big screen, Hemsley was involved in various Broadway productions and acting companies. Apart from his success in The Jeffersons, Hemsley also starred in the well-known TV shows of: Amen, Dinosaurs, Goode Behavior, and the most recent series of Clunkers.

    I grew up watching The Jefferson’s TV show. I looked forward to watching it every Saturday night. Sherman Hemsley made the character George Jefferson likeable.
