Sandy Allen

Born: 1955-06-18 - Died: 2008-08-13
Cause of Death:

Death Summary: Sandra “Sandy” Elaine Allen was bedridden the last few years of her life due to her enormous stature. Her legs and back could not support her large frame. She spent the last few years of her life in a retirement center in Shelbyville, Indiana.

The Indianapolis Star reported Allen’s death early in the morning on August 13, 2008. It is unclear how she died at this time though.

Who was Sandy Allen : Allen was the second tallest living woman according to Guinness World Records at 7’ 7 ¼ inches.

Her abnormal stature was a result of a tumor in her pituitary gland that caused the uncontrollable release of the growth hormone. At the age of 22 she underwent surgery to stop the excessive growing. Without the surgery she would’ve continued to get taller and taller.

She appeared in a few films, one of which was the Academy Award winning “II Casanova di Federico Fellini”.

Allen also wrote a book, which was entitled “Cast A Giant Shadow”.

I have liked Sandy Allen from the first time I ever saw her on tv. If I could have been fortunate enough to know her I know that I would have liked to be friends with her. Sandy had all the qualities that I really admire in a person. I am very sad to hear of her passing.

May GOD keep you …I was born on the day you died in 1956 and am also Acromegallic. I wanted to get ahold of you for many years but was unable to. I am soon to be 56 years old and have had a very sifficult time and more than my share of severe pain. People have been unkind to me, and have made aweful statements to me, so i know the hard life we have lived. I do not ever respond nor do i ex[plain to anyone as to why or what i am because i would be explaining to everyone all my life endlessly. The television shows that you were on, helped people understand . I pray GOD allows me to meet you in heaven for it wont be long now until i too, am gone. Candace
