Death Summary: Nick Ashford died as the result of complications resulting from throat cancer in New York.
Who was Nick Ashford : Ashford was part of the singer / songwriter duo that was Ashford and Simpson. The duo, also husband and wife, penned several iconic songs over the years: Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing, Solid (As a Rock), Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand) and I'm Every Woman.
The duo began their careers as a successful writing and producing tandem, then eventually transitioned over to being performers themselves. During their early career, they wrote a couple of songs for Ray Charles, Lets Go Get Stoned and I Don't Need No Doctor, this led to them receiving attention from Motown chief Berry Gordy. Ashford & Simpson eventually signed with Motown in 1966 and were paired with Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, they wrote and or produced all but one of the singles that came out in the late 1960s.
Ashford & Simpson were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002.

One half of the Greatest Song Writers of ALL TIME is an UNDERSTATEMENT! They WERE as ONE! Couldn’t say ONE name without the other! Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson were GENIUSES in their OWN Right! I sure hope that the Motown Artists, whose HIT SONGS, penned by the duo, gained them fame, will give them the props, that they really DESERVE! RIP Nick. Valerie, I feel your pain. Be Strong!

I was and still is a big fan of your music. I intended on purchasing tickets for your performance two years ago at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange, New Jersey and the show was sold out, so I just stood in the lobby and listened to the great sounds. You will truly be missed!

Aside from being a great song writer, singer and dancer i love the fact that he had old school values that kept he and his wife together through thick and thin, and im sure those values were passed on to their daughters. how blessed we are to know there are still fine examples of love and devotion to immatate.Thanks Nick!
