
Death Summary: John “Mitch” Mitchell was found dead at 3:00 AM on November 12, 2008 in his room at the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland. It is believed that he passed away from natural causes.
He had spent the last 4 weeks on the “Experience Hendrix Tour” with fellow tour mates which included Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson, Cesar Rosas, David Hidalgo, Aerosmith's Brad Whitford, Hubert Sumlin, Chris Layton as well as Eric Gales and Mato Nanji.
Mitchell was the last surviving member of the original Jimi Hendrix Experience.
Who was Mitch Mitchell : Mitchell was the drummer for The Jimi Hendrix Experience. He was praised for his work on songs such as “Voodoo Child”, “Third Stone from the Sun”, “Fire”, and “Manic Depression”.
Mitchell came from a jazz background and was influenced by some of the greats; Elvin Jones, Joe Morello, and Max Roach.
His stint with the legendary trio last from October 1966 to mid 1969.
