Who was Mike Starr : Mike Starr is an original member of the platinum selling band Alice in Chains. Though he would eventually break up with the band, he was a part of their best selling album.
In the mid-80's, Starr along with Jerry Cantrell and Sean Kinney, started a band called Diamond Lie. They were met with renown in the Seattle music scene, and later on would change their name to Alice in Chains.
Their local success would eventually lead to a Columbia Records deal, which would follow with record sales and radio play. All fueled by the grunge movement of the early-mid 90's. Their first album, Facelift, saw a slow release, obtaining only 40,000 units sold with its first six months of release. Fortunately, MTV ran their music video for "Man in the Box" during their regular video rotation.
Their album Facelift was followed by the multi-platinum selling album, Dirt. Starr would break up with the band during the band's tour for Dirt. Originally, it was stated Starr didn't want to be a part of a strenuous tour schedule. Though he would later admit on the show Celebrity Rehab he was kicked out of the band for drug addiction.
A year after his departure from Alice in Chains, Starr joined a band called Sun Red Sun. They released a self-titled album, with two of the members previously being a part of Black Sabbath. The lead singer died from AIDs related complications, and the band broke up.
Starr was known for having a habitual drug problem, and it all came to a head when he appeared on the third season of the reality show, 'Celebrity Rehab'. The show documented Starr's addiction to heroin and the time he spent in a recovery center. The show aired in 2010, and he was reported to be clean. However, in February 2011, Starr was arrested for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance.
