Prostate Cancer

Death Summary: Griffin was first treated for prostate cancer back in 1996, but the cancer returned and took his life 11 years later.

There was speculation that Griffin was homosexual based on sexual harassment lawsuits he was involved with, but this was not confirmed until immediately after his death.

His funeral was attended by Nancy Reagan (wife of the late Ronald Regan), Arnold Schwarzenegger and wife Maria Shriver, Pat Sajak, Alex Trebek, Vanna White, and Dick Van Dyke.

He was buried in a mausoleum in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.

Who was Merv Griffin : Mervyn Edward "Merv" Griffin, Jr. is probably best known for his talk show, The Merv Griffin Show that ran for 21 years winning 11 Emmy awards.

Griffin was also a singer in his younger days, and even appeared on Broadway and in movies.

He had his share of business ventures as well investing in real estate, hotels, casinos, and racehorses.

Griffin created the game show Jeopardy in the 60s and then in the 70s created Wheel of Fortune. Both are still going strong.
