Sendak died on May 8th of 2012 due to a stroke. He was 83 years old.

Maurice Sendak was a well-known Children's Literature author from Brooklyn, New York. His most well-known work was the book Where The Wild Things Are, where Sendak both wrote and illustrated the 1963 children's story.

Sendak's passion for writing came at an early age from being confined to bed due to illness, and his love for illustrating came from the Disney movie Fantasia.

Apart from his well-known book of Where The Wild Things Are, Sendak also published other great works, such as: In the Night Kitchen, Outside, Over There, and Really Rosie.
