Death Summary: Marion Dewar had a serious fall and was rushed to a Toronto hospital, she was in area visiting the Toronto International Film Festival. Two days later Dewar died from her injuries.
Who was Marion Dewar : Dewar was the former mayor of Ottawa, Canada (1978 – 1985) and a member of the Parliament of Canada (1986 – 1988).
Dewar graduated from Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in Kingston, Ontario in 1949. She was a public health nurse from 1969 – 1971.
She began her political career when she became an Ottawa alderman for Britannia Ward in 1972, and was elected Deputy Mayor in 1974.
Later in her career she became chair of Oxfam Canada, and was made a Member of the Order of Canada… the highest Canadian civilian honor.
