Chambers was trying to find work as an actress, when she answered an advertisement for a casting call. Upon her arrival, she found out that it wasn’t for a normal gig… it was for a porno film. She was about to head out when the Mitchell brothers saw her, and marveled at how much she looked like Cybill Shepherd. They stopped her and convinced her to be in their movie. Chambers was very reluctant to star in “Behind the Green Door” so she demanded $25,000 and a percentage of the gross, fully expecting them to say no. They agreed much to her surprise.
After “The Green Door” Chambers went on to star in about 27 porno films and several main stream movies. In the 2004 presidential election she ran for Vice President on the Personal Choice Party ticket, she received a total of 946 votes.

Marilyn was a pioneer, a breakthrough figure of our time. She should have been more than a mention in some obscure article. She was an American icon and should be honored as such. I am really sorry that we have lost her. I was a fan who grew up in the Bay Area at the time of her famous notoriety and was stunned to learn of her passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to her daughter. Marilyn, you will be missed.

I met her in the early 80’s. I had the privilege to run her shows while working at The New Era - Stage Door Johhnys in Cleveland Ohio. I was running her show when we were busted by vice Friday Feb. 13th in 1986. Great Lady I adored her. I am sad to say I just found out she’s gone R.I.P Babe!
