Lucio Fulci

Born: 1927-06-17 - Died: 1996-03-13
Cause of Death:
Suicide

Death Summary: Fulci was a diabetic for many years and died in his home at the age of 68 when he didn't take his insulin shot before going to bed one night.

His death has been a bit controversial as some believe it was suicide, while others think it was merely accidental.

Who was Lucio Fulci : Lucio Fulci was an Italian film writer/director (and occasionally actor and producer) who earned the nickname "The Godfather of Gore" through a slew of films spanning from the late 50s to the early 90s.

He dabbled in a variety of genres over the years, but is remembered most fondly for his horror films. Some of his more popular titles included Zombie (aka Zombi 2, the unofficial Italian sequel to George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, which was released as Zombi in Italy), The Beyond (aka Seven Doors to Death), and City of the Living Dead (aka Gates of Hell).

His films had a reputation for being extremely graphic in violence and is often compared to fellow Italian horror maestro Dario Argento, though Fulci openly declared his dislike for Argento's work.

Fulci's influence has left its mark for decades after the height of his own achievements. Directors like Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have cited him as an influence on some of their work.
