Complications from ATV accident

Death Summary: LeRoi Moore was injured in an ATV accident on his farm in Virginia on June 30, 2008. He broke several ribs, punctured a lung and was hospitalized for several days.

On August 19, 2008, almost two months after the accident, Moore succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

The band issued a statement on their website… “We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.”

Who was LeRoi Moore : Moore was a saxophonist, and a founding member of the Dave Matthews Band. Moore is credited for arranging most of the songs that Dave Matthews wrote for the band.

He studied tenor saxophone at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. After college he became an accomplished jazz musician in Charlottesville, Virginia (playing with artists like Dawn Thompson and John D’earth).

Moore met Matthews when the singer asked him, to help out with some of his new recordings.

    LeRoi will always be with us, maybe not in his body but through his music. All of you out there that had LeRoi as your pattern don’t say that he isn’t that anymore, because I think that he still wants us to take him as an influence even if he is not with us anymore. So he will always live in his music, and if you had him as your pattern, he is still your pattern.
