I met Karl when I was at a youth football camp at Upper Iowa College in Iowa. Karl was one of the pros at the camp. As a young man, I looked up to Karl and loved this man’s sense of humor and overall grit as a football player. He was a great person to be around and he had so much life. There aren’t many in a lifetime that your can really truly look up to and Karl Kassulke was one of a few. I think you will all agree with me with that statement of the man. Thank you Karl for being such a good person and leaving us with many good memories. Jon Lazar – Cary NC

I first met Karl at the 1974 Drake University Football Banquet at which Karl Kassulke was the guest speaker. This was after Karl’s accident and he was in a wheelchair. As one of the captains of the football team I had the priviledge of helping to lift Karl on to the stage where he was to speak. His voice was booming, his laugh contagious and his speech was one of the most inspirational that I had ever heard. I’ll never forget him as the great football player and motivator he was. His reputation as a former Drake Bulldog was legendary. It was said that while at Drake Karl had jumped from the top of the second floor balcony down to the saw dust pole vault pit in the old Drake Field House. (About a 30 foot drop)He was an inspiration to all of us at Drake who dreamed of becoming an NFL player one day. It was an honor to have met him. Jerry Heston – Ankeny IA

I’m from NJ and have been a life long Vikijngs fan. I was thinking of all the old time greats from when I was a kid and rememebered Mr. Kalsulke and how my heart broke when he got in the accident that ended his career,
I’m glad to see that he went on to lead a life that touched others,
If I can remember him all these years gone by I’m sure others do too and such is a life well spent.
