Death Summary: Sylvester Ritter (aka Junk Yard Dog) was traveling back from Wadesboro, North Carolina, where he was watching his daughter graduate. He fell asleep behind the wheel and wrecked his car on June 2, 1998. He died as a result of his injuries. Ritter’s body was laid to rest in an unmarked grave.

He is best known for his wresting days in the World Wrestling Federation. JYD always entered the ring with a chain attached to a dog collar, with the Queen song “Another One Bites the Dust” playing.
He was known for interacting with the audience, especially the younger crowd. He would often bring them into the ring after his matches and dance with them. JYD also won The Wrestling Classic tournament, which is often cited as the first WWF pay-per-view.

he was one of the greatest he will be missed
i went to school with jyd saw him play football in school he would hit u hard.he was my friend.good man.he was a nc high school wreslting champ also.they should have made him a WWC champ also.i know some of these guy he wrestled would not beat him.i played football with him and wrestle him in high school he was real strong.and he dose have a grave marker.i have went to his grave.there is a picture of him there also..he was the best.

Jyd I was at the raw show you were gonna come to when they announced you were a member of the hall of fame, 4 corners in the ring, only 3 wrestlers occupied them, you were the 4th, congratulations, r.I.p.
i remember when he came to toronto back in the 80′s and i got to dance with him and do the junk yard dogg moves with him he will forever be in my heart as one of wwf greatest superstars see u when we get there.
I rememeber JYD and my dad traveling back and forth to Shreveport wrestling. JYD you are greatly missed.
He was one of the nicest men I have ever met.JYD I will miss you, I’ll always remember your smile.

I met jyd many times when he was in Bill Watts’ mid south area. I also had the pleasure of having my picture taken with him. He was always very kind to me. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I wish he were still around. You have my deepest sympathy.

Wanted to say that I met JYD several yrs ago and we became really good friends I miss him and hope that he in his fathers house having a wonderful time
JYD was the man. There weren’t a lot of black wrestlers that were really famous back then. I still miss him.
