Death Summary: Joseph Brooks' body was found sitting on the couch in his Manhattan apartment. A plastic dry cleaning bad was around his head with a towel around his neck. Near the body a helium tank with a hose on it was found with a suicide note.
Police wouldn't discuss the particulars of the note.
Who was Joseph Brooks : Brooks was a producer, screenwriter, director and composer. He's probably best known for composing the hit song "You Light Up My Life" for the film of the same name. The song earned Brooks an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Grammy. "You Light Up My Life" was the first solo hit for singer Debby Boone.
In June of 2009, Brooks was accused of sexual assault by four women. Allegedly, he lured them to his Manhattan apartment with acting roles used as bait. Brooks would fly the women in from all over the country on his own dime. At the time of his death the trial had yet to begin.
