John Candy

Born: 1950-10-31 - Died: 1994-03-04
Cause of Death:
Heart Attack

Death Summary: Candy suffered a coronary embolism, which led to a heart attack, and died in his sleep at the age of 43 while in Durango, Mexico for the filming of his last movie Wagons East.

He had a history of heart disease in his family and doctors told him repeatedly that he needed to lose weight. He had indeed started to do so, on top of quitting smoking, but it was all unfortunately too little, too late for the beloved actor.

Who was John Candy : John Franklin Candy was one of the most adored comedic actors of his time, particularly throughout the 80s and early 90s.

He appeared on the Canadian sketch-comedy show SCTV before breaking into movies. Memorable films included Uncle Buck, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, The Great Outdoors, and Spaceballs to name a few. He even had a cartoon called Camp Candy, in which an animated version of himself ran a children's summer camp.

Similarly to Chris Farley, Candy was self-conscious about his weight throughout most of his life, and it almost surely played a factor in his demise. The loss of John Candy, was one of the greatest losses comedy.

Mr Candy I am so sorry I did not speak to you when you were making the movie the great outdoors!!I was 20 years old then and super shy and did not have the guts to speak to you//I missed my opportunity to meet you!!to this day I could kick myself ..not just because I was sitting right next to you…but because I acted like a total geek!!I even left the set of the movie early and was not in the final scene with you…cause I had tickets for the def leppard concert that same night!!It was the only time I ever saw them…even to this day..But it would have been worth it to give those tickets away to have been in that final shot of the movie with you!!so I blew it!!now with that..God Bless you forever..and may you be young and strong and happy for all eternity!!amen…

  20. Joe Fazio Says:

    For John…

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain…on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

    Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me…
with a smile and a sigh.

I finally get the chance to pay my respects for a very funny and talented and unique individual that was John Candy I am now 43 and from Montreal Canada and have always admired John Candy for as long as i’ve known him in comedies. I miss him a lot in movies and appearances. he had a chemistry like no other and was always kind considerate and looked like a very generous gentle man. I send my heartfelt regret for his family even though it has been 17 years of his passing . i remember these years as really empty without john in many ways in comedy. I hope you found a life of peace John . R.I.P still.
