Death Summary: John Adams died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, at his home in Quincy.

His famous last words were, “Jefferson still lives” a testament to the friendship the two men had grown into after being political rivals. But alas, at the time Adams demise he didn’t know that Jefferson had died just mere hours earlier… on the same day.

Who was John Adams : Adams was the second President of the United States, as well as the first Vice President. He is highly regarded as one of the most influential Founding Fathers of the United States.

He began his political career as a delegate from Massachusetts to the Continental Congress, and was a leader in the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

Adams was defeated during his bid for re-election by Thomas Jefferson.
