Death Summary: It started with Henson feeling flu-like symptoms, which were evident on his appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show on May 4th. As he got progressively worse, he died on May 16th after starting to cough up blood.
At first, he was thought to have died from pneumonia, but his death was then attributed to organ failure due to a streptococcus infection, which had led to abscesses in his lungs.

i rember when jim passed away the rain bow connection , it reminded me of kermit i cryed and istill cry because i miss the muppets , and especaily kermit , when it rains it pours and its heavens tears , and its jims tears , if one person beleievs in you deep enough and strong enough and long enough i miss you jim and i miss you kermit , rest in peace god please watch over jim and kermit , this is for the muppet fans i love you all too love kelly a muppet fan

Thank you Mr Henson for all you gave us. I too am a puppet creator and lived my childhood hoping one day I could work for you. I have developed my own form of puppet creations and hope some day I too will make millions and millions of people on this planet smile and show the love you gave us.

You were and still are one of my inspirations, every year on my birthday I have a marathon of your movies since you and I shared the same birthday. Also in tribute to you I have a Kermit the Frog tattoo on my right calf. You will always be my hero and no one will ever forget you.
First, I just would like to say I really…didn’t know you well enough to be all kinds of sad when you passed. That is because it was before I was born after your time. May you, and your creative ideas, live on forever. Long live Jim Henson, and long live the Muppets!!
