Who was Jacob Goldman : Goldman was a physicist who was Xerox's chief scientist. He founded the company's Palo Alto Research Center, where the modern personal computer was invented.
During the latter years of the 1960s, Xerox was the dominant manufacturer of office copiers. At the time they were looking for new ways to move into new markets when Goldman suggested an open-ended research laboratory. The intent of the laboratory was to research "the architecture of information".
Xerox is often criticized for "fumbling the future", as they did not capitalize enough on the technologies they had pioneered. They essentially set back while Apple, Microsoft and numerous others did just that.
