Death Summary: Jack Layton announced that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer on February 5, 2010. His father had suffered from the same type of cancer 17 years earlier, and successfully recovered from it. He vowed to defeat cancer and said that it would not interrupt his duties as a member of Parliament or leadership responsibilities for the NDP.
On July 25, 2011 Layton announced that he would be taking a temporary leave from his post. Less than a month after his leave, he passed away at 4:45 a.m. ET at his Toronto, Ontario home.
Who was Jack Layton : Layton was a Canadian social democratic politician and the leader of the Official Opposition in the Canadian Parliament. He lead the New Democratic Party from 2003 - 2011. Occasionally he served as acting mayor and deputy mayor of Toronto while on the City Council. He was also the Member of Parliament for the constituency of Toronto from 2004 - his death in 2011.

It was with a great sense of loss when I heard of JACK LAYTON death. I wanted to let you know that you all are with my greatest sympathy and my heart is truly saddened.
We know that his passing will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of all the Canadian. He will always remain within our and country’s hearts.

I am so saddened to hear of such a great person and his family hurting from such heart ache. I send my condolenses to his family and wife. Although he is gone, he remains in all our prayers and hearts from here on.

Jack’s spirit lives on in many Canadians. We need more politicians like him. More action, less BS!!!
I am so sorry that this has happened to such a wonderful and profound person that has done so much for Canada. I am so sorry for his family who misses him more and more each day. We do need more people in politics like him.

I was super bummed when he died Layton was the only guy I ever voted for now I don’t know who to vote for, he always seemed so cool and well humored .
Canada sends observers to monitor the Presidential elections of other third world countries. In the Ukraine, Egypt, Honduras, Mexico, Canada has played a pinnacle role in ensuring elections were fair and legal. What does this scandal do to our reputation as a nation? Just do as we say, not as we do? This is a real big joke to someone out there.
