Gidget Gein
Born: 1969-09-11 - Died: 2008-10-08Cause of Death: Drug Overdose
Death Summary: Gein whose real name was Brad Stewart was found dead at his home in Burbank, Califonria from an apparent heroin overdose. He was 39 years old.
His death was not announced until several days later, so the Los Angeles County Coroner's office could notify his family before making the information public.
This was not his first overdose. He had experienced one on Christmas Eve of 1993, which ultimately got him kicked out of his band.
Who was Gidget Gein : Bradley Anne Stewart (aka Gidget Gein) was best known as the second bass player for controversial musical act Marilyn Manson (called Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids when Gein joined). His stage name - Gidget Gein, was derived from television character Gidget, and serial killer Ed Gein. This was the same concept used by all members of the band. Marilyn Manson's name for example came from a combination of Marilyn Monroe and Sharon Tate-Murder mastermind Charles Manson. Another member went by the name Ginger Fish, whose surname was derived from notorious serial killer Albert Fish. You get the idea.
Gein is credited with playing bass on Marilyn Manson’s debut album "Portrait of an American Family," although by the time the album was released, he had already been replaced by the better-known Twiggy Ramirez (who is credited on the album with simply "base tendencies").
According to Wikipedia, "After writing a great arsenal of music for the band, Gein then saw a substitution of his style and personality inserted into Marilyn Manson albums for years to come. Earlier songs Gidget had written like "She Isn't My Girlfriend" would be re-titled with different lyrics as the song "1996".
Gein's work was perhaps more famous than he was himself. This is a fine example of how drugs can ruin a life.
