George Carlin

Born: 1937-05-12 - Died: 2008-06-22
Cause of Death:
Heart Failure

Death Summary: George Carlin died at the age of 71 when his heart gave out after being admitted to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California for having chest pains. He died the same day. Carlin's death was covered extensively by the media somewhat ironically as Carlin himself once said, "I dread the deaths of certain super-celebrities. Not because I care about them, but because of all the shit I have to endure on television when one of them dies. All those tributes and retrospectives. And the bigger the personality, the worse it is." Carlin was cremated and had no public or religious services performed as he had previously requested.

Who was George Carlin : George Carlin was widely regarded as one of the best comedians of all time. He was awarded four Grammies for his comedy albums. His most famous bit about the seven words you are not allowed to say on television was actually used as reference in a Supreme Court case regarding the government's power to regulate "indecent" material on public airwaves.

  1. Dennis Chamberlain Says:

I think George Carlin’s comments about religion and how it is the ‘biggest bullshit department ever’ is right on the mark. I have the book ‘Celebrities in Hell’ and he is listed with that famous comment. Carlin’s comments will live and bring laughter long after his death. I’m glad I was able to live during Carlin’s lifetime and watch, listen, read and enjoy this great man tell it like it really was and is. Long live George Carlin. Dennis Chamberlain
