Death Summary: Blanda passed away after what the Pro Football Hall of Fame stated was a "short illness"

Who was George Blanda : George Blanda's 26 year career span defines the term "iron man". Blanda played for four different teams during his stint in both the AFL and NFL. His accolades ranges from AFL All Star selections to multiple AFL championships.

Blanda's football career originated in college, when he played for the University of Kentucky Wildcats. He played for the legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. Upon finishing college he was drafted by the Chicago Bears for $600 in 1949.

During his collegiate and pro years, Blanda played both place kicker and Quarterback, and also saw a small bit of time at linebacker. Blanda would go onto retire in 1958 due to a hostile relationship with the Bear's owner, George Halas. The dispute was over Halas' refusal to play Blanda at QB after a season long injury. He would eventually join the Houston Oilers in the AFL. During his second season with the team, he led the AFL with 36 touchdown passes and 3,330 passing yards. The touchdown record would stand until Dan Marion broke it in 1984.

Blanda is well renowned for holding, or once holding numerous football records. The most notable being his 26 year long career which still hasn't been broken. He also scored at least one point in all those seasons. He is tied with four others for most touchdowns in a game, with 7. He did hold the record for most interceptions thrown, until Favre broke it just a couple of years ago. He was a 4 time AFL All Star, won 3 AFL Championships, and is a member of the 'AFL All-Time Team'.
