Death Summary: After being convicted (without trial), Báthory was locked in a room in her castle until she died, most likely of starvation, as there were several plates of food piled up that were untouched.
Her body was discovered by a jailer who wanted a better look at her because she was rumored to be one of the most beautiful women in the country. He looked through a hole in the wall and discovered that she had died. The exact date of her death is unknown, but she was discovered on August 21, 1614.

She is often called "The Blood Countess" due to legends that she used to bathe in the blood of virgins as a means of preserving her youth, although the accuracy of this has been called into question.
She was convicted of 80 murders, and accused of over 600. She is part of the who Bram Stoker's Count Dracula (made famous in film by Bela Lugosi) was based on (the other part being Vlad the Impaler).
