Death Summary: Wood had a bad drinking problem, which most likely contributed to the heart attack that claimed his life.

He was allegedly watching a football game in his living room and yelled for his wife, saying that he couldn't breathe for 90 minutes before he died as she ignored him according to the biographical book, Nightmare of Ecstasy.

Who was Edward D. Wood Jr. : Edward D. Wood Jr. or Ed Wood as he is commonly known is famous for making terrible movies. In fact his movie Plan 9 from Outer Space is widely regarded as the worst movie ever made. The movie has surely been outstunk by now, but it is still referred to with the title just the same.

He made a living off of B movies from the early 40s until his death in the late 70s although he became increasingly poor toward the end and by then was mostly involved with porn rather than the monster movies he is more famous for.

Besides being famous for his movies, Wood was a well-known cross-dresser, a theme he explored with his first movie (in which he also starred) Glen or Glenda?

Wood's story became much more well known when director Tim Burton made the movie Ed Wood starring Johnny Depp, Martin Landau, Bill Murray, Sarah Jessica Parker and Patricia Arquette. The film won 2 academy awards, one for Landau's performance and one for FX maestro Rick Baker's work.
