I thought of Eddie Yost on Oct. 13, his birthday, as I have every year since I saw him play for the Washington Senators. I went to virtually every home game at Griffith Stadium from 1953-1957, my high school years. He wrote me after I wrote him a fan letter: “Winners never quit, and quitters never win” was a motto he wrote to me. I am heartbroken; Eddie Yost was my hero, and he never disappointed. My condolences to his family.
