She was a beutiful and classy lady. She is an example that black women of our generation should be. She came from the deep south and became an international star. My prayers go out to her family
I was lucky to have worked with Eartha as her pianist in 1985. She was quite the character but always a very caring person who stood up for injustice.
A little story for you all, when we were working at a new club in Coconut Grove, FLA. called Cafe Chiffon, the club had not paid the bill for the hotel. Eartha, in her usual generous way, had given me her suite overlooking the water as she was staying with friends in a private house. She was in her late 50′s then and I was in my early 30′s. The hotel refused to let me into my hotel room as the club had not paid the hotel bill. I had to have my tuxedo to go on stage that night. You had better believe that when Eartha said, “If my musical director doesn’t have his tuxedo to go on stage tonight, I won’t be on stage either”…well the problem was quickly resolved. She was so talented and shen I just saw her in mid October, just a couple of months ago, she did a great job. I went backstage, after having not seen each other since 85 and she couldn’t have been nicer. I did notice that she was really tired, as she voiced that to her daughter and to bring her some water, but you wouldn’t have noticed onstage. She was truly a showman, or I should say, a SHOW WOMAN. Rest in peace Eartha.
Lovely Eartha you will be missed

There is a song entitled “I Wanna be Evil” that Eartha Kitt sang. I loved it. It was part of a collection my grandmother had of old 78 1/2 records made of lead. She had a small role with Eddie Murphy in the movie “Boomerang” as well and she was just as stunning in her mature years. RIP Ms. Kitt. You have inspired me so much.
