Ean Evans

Born: 1961-00-00 - Died: 2009-05-06
Cause of Death:
Cancer

Death Summary: Ean Evans was diagnosed with cancer in late 2008, and succumbed to his illness on May 6, 2009. He was only 48.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is continuing their tour with a temporary replacement, and Johnny Van Zant is asking audiences to pray for their fallen band mate.

Who was Ean Evans : Evans was the bassist for legendary southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from 2001 until his untimely death.

Evans began playing the guitar around age 15, and soon there after he was playing with various cover bands.

A few years later he switched to bass and began to study the techniques and styles of famed musicians John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Geddy Lee (Rush) and Leon Wilkeson (Lynyrd Skynyrd) which brought out a more aggressive style of play.

The bands leader Hughie Thomasson, who would later join Lynyrd Skynyrd as well, called upon Evans to join Outlaws.

When Leon Wilkeson passed away, Skynyrd turned their attention to Evans and asked him to step in. He joined the band on August 11, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ean Evans was one of the most gift bassists I have ever heard and, even more, one of the kindest and humble of men. He gave one of the greatest nights of my life meeting him backstage and signing my own bass guitar. This hurts to learn how he suffered, and Eva: I will keep you and your girls in my prayers. God “picked a beautiful flower” and we WILL see Ean again.
