Who was Don Kirshner : Don Kirshner was a well renowned music producer, who had the nickname: 'The Man With the Golden Ear'. He's been influential in starting the careers of Carole King, Bobby Darin, and Neil Diamond.

Kirshner's beginning in the music industry was met with success. In the 1950's, he became co-owner of the publishing company, Aldon Music. During this time the company had songwriters under contract with the likes of Barry Mann, Carole King, and Neil Sedaka. Propelling the company to success.

In the 60's, Kirshner and Aldon Music was called upon by The Monkees to write hit-worthy songs for their television program. At the time, The Monkees didn't perform their own music on-air. When this news came to light, there was a controversy.

Kirshner moved to television producing in the 1970's. He started on a show called "In Concert" as an executive producer. Soon after he would produce and host his own show called "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert". The show featured live performances, with the artists actually performing their music. Instead of lip-syncing which was the norm for shows of the type. Many famous bands performed on the show. The show is often attributed to being the inspiration behind MTV.

Kirshner is surived by his wife, Sheila, children, Ricky and Daryn, and five grandchildren.

    I was so happy to meet Don ’cause he was so much a part of my life by all the inovations he provided in the music industry. I loved the Monkees and all that he brought forward in the production of their music and his contribution to the “60’s”. Rest in peace! My thoughts and prayers are with the Kirshner family.
