Death Summary: Cornelius committed suicide on February 1, 2012. Responding law enforcement agents assume that he died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, a complete investigation is pending.
Who was Don Cornelius : Cornelius was a television show host and producer who is best known for creating, and hosting (from 1971 - 1993, the nationally syndicated dance/music franchise Soul Train. MadVision Entertainment purchased Soul Train in 2008 from Cornelius.
The way Soul Train came about was, Cornelius recognized that in the late 1960s there was no television venue in the States for soul music. He created the show which introduced many African-American musicians to a larger audience.
Cornelius will probably be remembered for his iconic catchphrase, which he used to close each show: "... and you can bet your last money, it's all gonna be a stone gas, honey! I'm Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soul!"

The sad part was don was working on a new project. A game show called self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The premise was simple, take a gunshot wound to the head and see who lives. Ten contestants ten handguns ten bullets ten noggins. That was the tag line for the show. The grand prize was twenty thousand dollars. NBC was thinking about it being put on midday. They network was worried that all the cotestants would die from there wounds and there would be no winner. So Don decided to show them they were wrong and try he did. Don was able to unload 3 shots before he died. Proving he was a true beliver in his show. He still went to far. The first part of his carrer was really awsome with soul train. I can’t understand how he kept all those silverbacks under control with that loud music plus the bright lights. Rest easy don you will be sorta missed.

As a teenager in high school, I watched Soul Train religiously every Saturday morning. I’m not black, but I grew up with soul and R&B music, and I love it to this day. Don did a LOT to promote black artists and black music during the 70′s and 80′s, and for that he deserves MUCH respect! He was a true pioneer and a visionary. God only knows what issues prompted him to take his own life, but that should not diminish in any way the importance of the role he played in the American music industry. Keep it up in heaven, Don! I wish you LOVE, PEACE and SOUL!!!!!!!

He took a shot to the head? Why? Why? You were my favorite colored person. I thought you were so cool when you would say something like, “hey my brothers where you being at up there near me over here now my children of the wheels that spin and bring my check to the house that we gonna get weed and booze with” A legend of TV has gone away again. That’s a shame for sure, rest easy my main man.
Soul Train was one of the few things I could bond over with my dad. It gave me my love of music and it’s why I have any relationship at all with him now.
