Death Summary: According to The Hollywood Reporter, David R. Ellis' body was discovered in a hotel room in Johannesburg, South Africa, as he was in pre-production on a movie called Kite, which was to be a remake of a Japanese anime film, and would star Samuel L. Jackson with whom he worked on Snakes On A Plane. The cause of the death was not immediately determined. He was 60 years old.

Who was David R. Ellis : David R. Ellis was a Hollywood filmmaker, who directed such films as Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco, Final Destination 2, Cellular, Snakes On A Plane, Asylum, The Final Destination, and Shark Night. Those last two were released in 3D.

He was born in Hollywood, and began his career as a supporting actor, debuting in the Kurt Russell film The Strongest Man in the World. He went on to become a stuntman, and stunt coordinator. He started directing films in 1996 with the Homeward Bound sequel, then went on to less kid-friendly films like the gruesome Final Destination 2, and the others listed.
