Darrel Royal was a well-known football coach from Hollis, Oklahoma. Royal was most known for his involvement with coaching and as an athletic director for the University of Texas' Longhorns football team.

Apart from heading coaching at the University of Texas, Royal was also an assistant coaching for: North Carolina State (1950), University of Tulsa (1951), and Mississippi State (1952). He also head coached the Edmonton Eskimos (1953), Mississippi State (1954-1955), and the University of Washington (1956).
