Danny Gans

Born: 1956-10-25 - Died: 2009-05-01
Cause of Death:
Unknown at this time

Death Summary: Danny Gans died unexpectedly at his Las Vegas, Nevada home.

Gans’ wife found him complaining about shortness of breath around 3:30AM, but by the time the paramedics arrived, there wasn’t anything they could do. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The exact cause of death is unknown at the time of this writing.

Steve WynnSteve Wynn, chief executive of Wynn Resorts, released the following statements through his company that Gans’ death was “a profoundly tragic event that leaves us all sad and speechless.”

”All of us ... are devastated at the loss of our brilliant, talented and loving friend”.

”The loss of Danny to his wife Julie, his children Amy, Andrew and Emily is at this moment impossible to comprehend

Gans’ longtime manager, Chip Lightman, released a statement saying that Gans would be remembered as an entertainer and a man who loved his family, God and the city of Las Vegas, according to the LA Times.

"Danny has been my partner and dear friend for over 18 years. I will truly miss him," Lightman said.

Who was Danny Gans : Gans was a singer, comedian and impressionist who found success with his Las Vegas Strip performances. He had been named Entertainer of the Year, and his show had been awarded Show of the Year.

Bull DurhamBefore Gans made his way to Las Vegas, he was a professional baseball player. His knowledge of the game helped him land a roll in the Kevin Costner movie Bull Durham.

In the mid 1990s Gans moved to Broadway to perform in a very well received one-man show, Danny Gans on Broadway: The Man of Many Voices at the Neil Simon Theater in New York. Shortly after that, he decided to move his career to Las Vegas to reduce time away from his family, which lived in Los Angeles.

In 1996 Gans began his Vegas show career at the Stratosphere Hotel. His next stop was a stint at the Rio Hotel, then the Mirage in 2000 where he worked in a theatre that shared his name… the Danny Gans Theatre.

In early 2009 Gans switched venues once more. This time he found himself nestled between the Encore and Wynn resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. He was performing in a 1,500-seat theatre where he did a show every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Here is a video of Steve Wynn discussing landing Danny Gans for the Encore.

Gans was also very active in the Las Vegas community. He hosted numerous charity events and was prominently featured on billboards and advertisements around town. Most notably is the Las Vegas Strip marquee bearing Gans’ image, which is the largest freestanding marquee in the world.

  21. Larry G Jones Says:

Danny Gans was a fantastic performer and will be missed by me and millions of other fans. My heartfelt prayers go out to his family and friends who, along with his faith were the core of his life.

I can honestly say that If it were not for Danny’s success, I would probably not be working today as a singing impressionist in Las Vegas(or in the corporate world). The first time I visited Las Vegas in 1996 to research the venues, the city and shows, I saw Danny Gans at the Stratosphere and was amazed by his variety of voices and his show.

As a fellow ‘Singing’ impressionist, I have always been glad to see the model of his one-man show go through the roof and while our material is quite different, my show’s format is influenced by Danny’s model of ‘hit and run’ using a large multitude of short musical segments and lots of song parodies packed into every show in order to get more voices in . Even though is truly an honor, I am upset by the circumstance that would somehow suddenly make your mine be the longest running (albeit on a much smaller scale) impressionist show in Las Vegas (7 years).

As an Impressionist and Las Vegas entertainer, I can only hope to touch the surface of creating a legacy like his. In the meantime, like Danny, I’ll just keep doing what I love. Especially for the reason I have survived ‘terminal cancer’, drowning, and kidney failure; I am shocked and deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Las Vegas’ all-time top performers. I hope to meet him in heaven one day to say “Thank You Danny Gans, for bringing so much joy to so many people!”

    RIP my friend.
    All my best,
    Larry G Jones

  22. Michael Latch Says:

You and I had a ton of things in common, formaer baseball player, recently married, etc., and had a great conversation on the way to the event. I have followed your career since then and i was “sad” to hear of your passing! I hope that you are singing and doing your impersonations for the man upstairs now.
God Bless you and your wife and children.

  58. Bill Spitalnick Says:

Danny Gans was almost too good to be true. In 1934 Cole Porter wrote a song that in my opinion belongs to Danny Gans entitled, “You’re the top.” Once in a while someone comes along that is not like any other and is given the title of being the Top. Danny Gans was such a person and provided so much to so many people over time. When he performed his impression of Henry Fonda in “On Golden Pond”, it was so good that it was almost as if Henry Fonda was impersonating Danny Gans doing Henry Fonda. Danny’s demise has created a void that may never be filled. One thing for sure is that he will be missed for as long as people have the ability to remember.

  59. maria sequeira Says:

i seen danny at the vegas show. he was real good at the voices. i thought his impression of jesus was so funny. the way he screamed when he was pretendin to get nailed on the cross. to bad hes gone

  170. peter goesinher Says:

plus i almost forgot to say sorry to hear hes dead. i just found out about it. wow that was late anyway hes singing and dancing in the sky for the angles and god. i hope god dont hold them jesus jokes he told against him. i gotta go back to.sleep now my eyes is drooping from the cancer pain medication. it works like a sleeping pill that makes you real happy but constipates me something fierce. thats alright it takes the pain away i guess. i cant think right on it though. sometimes i start hummin an old tune like the hucklebuck or ragmop. those were good tunes to listen to when we was young. although i think back to that time and sigh. i did get a handjob behind the sons of italy hall in hackensack once. i was about 19 she was in her 40s id say. i think i ejaculated on her mittens one time if i remember correctly. anyway just wanted to pay my respects to bea arthur.

  171. santo Says:

Danny was a great guy and a great cocaine sniffer. I had the distinct honor of sniffing this powder with him. He would clutch his chest and say what a great hit that was then throw up and pass out. He often would look at me and say Santo cut some coke up. I would oblidge then break wind into a microphone and sing mammy all night. these were great times and great stories. He and i dp’ed Robert Reed one time in the back of my Dodge Omni what a great car. He was the dad on the Brady Bunch. Danny and I were lucky we didnt get the HIV from that guy.

  172. barbara Says:

i went to vegas last month hopeing to see him again. i didnt see him because he was dead. we went to dig him up and try to make him like a puppet and play his silly tunes in the backround. alas we got caught with the shovels and were asked to leave the cemetary after some heavy questions from the lvpd. so no luck for me getting a last glance at a great star. i just listened to one of his cd’s entitled squirts the reprise collection. my favorite song on there is old macdonald. he hit the e i o’s with such magic. still every time i hear that tune i have an orgasm then deficate in my g-string. well hugh beumont will be missed more than a downs syndrome child at a special olympic race. good night my sweet prince sleep like all the people who slept through your explosive show.

  173. kittly carlisle Says:

i died a few years before mr. ganz but have returned as a rotting corpse to pay my respects to him. i did meet him once at a to tell the truth concert. that was the show i did for years that required no talent whatsoever. i am proud of that. anyways before my boney fingers snap off let me get back to mr. ganz. we met and i was 89 at the time he was a spry 46. hung like a mosquito he tried hard to fill my cavernous vagina. to no avail he gave me a cleveland steamer and donkey punched me. being the gentleman that he was mr. ganz tended to cracked skull and bleeding anus. i cant understand why i have been resurected from the grave but i do remember the donkey punch and the steamer. i had sex with hundreds of negros when i was alive but never in my time dead or alive met such a nice man as mr. ganz. brad renfro will be sadly missed by none who knew him.

  174. lady bird johnson Says:

i broke wind in a las vegas elavator one sunny day and shook the very walls i was standing in. danny was next to me and handed me a moist cloth to wipe off the fecal resin that shot from my anus. what a nice young man i thought to myself. i introduced my self as a former first lady and idiot. he knew of my love for wild flowers above all else. why feed the hungry when we can have wild flowers on the sides of our roads. lbj would scream at me “fuck the poor more flowers you fat pig”. lyndon always knew how to charm me. oh, ive gotten of track. sorry, i am here to discuss the death of sal mineo. i was glad sal got stabbed,he was one of them queers. lyndon always said its ok to give it up the ass but not take it. so we are all here for milton berles family. my goodness i mean mr. ganz. my brain is dried up from being rotting corpse my self for the last 5 years. back to mr.ganz. his kindness brought a certain redness to my hair and a moistness to this old snatch box. his impersonation of the negros made me laugh. also when he did his johnathan holmes dying an excruchiating death from aids act. well i peed my pants literaly. a good christian and an even better closet junkie he will be missed by degenerate gamblers and alchoholics alike. my house boy is almost done lining my casket with fresh wild flowers so i must go and felate lyndon now. good by mr. elke summer you will be missed

  178. Evan M. Reiss Says:

    Dear Mrs. Gans and girls,
When I first saw the report on TV about Danny, he drove up in his Chevy and joked about the key not working to get into where he worked. The picture of him in the airplane really tugged at my heart strings and I was automatically hooked on one of the nicest, funniest guys I had ever known about. I told Marilyn (my wife) when I retire we are going to Vagas (for the first time)to see Danny. Then I went to work the next day and told everyone I could about Danny and how funny he was and that they should all go out to see him. I also told them that someday I was going to have a car just exactly like Danny’s. I always loved that model and could not believe it when he drove up in it! It just makes me sick the tradgedy your family has had to live through. Danny is a great, great loss and you and the girls not having your husband and the girls’ father is just the worse thing that I have known in my life. I just cannot tell you just how sorry that I am for you and the girls.
    Evan Reiss

  179. Evan M. Reiss Says:

I first Danny on TV where he drove up in his Chevy and the key would not fit into the door to let him in where he worked. His story and you little girl picturing him in an air plane, to me, was just unbelieveable. Then what happened after that was just a story book thing and I was so happy for all of you. I told Marilyn that we were definately going to see him as soon as I retired. Then I went to work the next day and told everyone they needed to go see him also and that someday I was going to have a car just like what Danny drove up in. What happened after that is one of the worst tradgedys that I have ever seen. I knew that a million people would be sending you their sentiments so I wated for a while to send you a note. I really am so, so sorry what happened to you and the girls. I just do not understand why such bad things have to happen in life.
