Death Summary: Danny Gans died unexpectedly at his Las Vegas, Nevada home.
Gans’ wife found him complaining about shortness of breath around 3:30AM, but by the time the paramedics arrived, there wasn’t anything they could do. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The exact cause of death is unknown at the time of this writing.
Steve Wynn, chief executive of Wynn Resorts, released the following statements through his company that Gans’ death was “a profoundly tragic event that leaves us all sad and speechless.”
”All of us ... are devastated at the loss of our brilliant, talented and loving friend”.
”The loss of Danny to his wife Julie, his children Amy, Andrew and Emily is at this moment impossible to comprehend”
Gans’ longtime manager, Chip Lightman, released a statement saying that Gans would be remembered as an entertainer and a man who loved his family, God and the city of Las Vegas, according to the LA Times.
"Danny has been my partner and dear friend for over 18 years. I will truly miss him," Lightman said.
Who was Danny Gans : Gans was a singer, comedian and impressionist who found success with his Las Vegas Strip performances. He had been named Entertainer of the Year, and his show had been awarded Show of the Year.
Before Gans made his way to Las Vegas, he was a professional baseball player. His knowledge of the game helped him land a roll in the Kevin Costner movie Bull Durham.
In the mid 1990s Gans moved to Broadway to perform in a very well received one-man show, Danny Gans on Broadway: The Man of Many Voices at the Neil Simon Theater in New York. Shortly after that, he decided to move his career to Las Vegas to reduce time away from his family, which lived in Los Angeles.
In 1996 Gans began his Vegas show career at the Stratosphere Hotel. His next stop was a stint at the Rio Hotel, then the Mirage in 2000 where he worked in a theatre that shared his name… the Danny Gans Theatre.
In early 2009 Gans switched venues once more. This time he found himself nestled between the Encore and Wynn resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. He was performing in a 1,500-seat theatre where he did a show every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Here is a video of Steve Wynn discussing landing Danny Gans for the Encore.
Gans was also very active in the Las Vegas community. He hosted numerous charity events and was prominently featured on billboards and advertisements around town. Most notably is the Las Vegas Strip marquee bearing Gans’ image, which is the largest freestanding marquee in the world.

I am dissappointment on you passed
To Danny’s family and friends he was the best in Las Vegas and send the deepest symthany to his family.
What a great loss this is. I had seen Danny perform many times and it was always entertaining. My prayers go out to his family
So sorry, just saw performance this past Febuary. Had a smile on my face the entire show.
This is devastating for Danny’s family, fans, and Las Vegas. What a tremendous loss for the entertainnment world. This wonderful man had unlimited talent and love for his family and fans.
For us, a trip to Vegas was not complete without taking in Danny’s show. It was always the highlight of our trip. My deepest condolences to his wife and children.
I went to Torrance High School with Danny - we were in the same English class every year. I have followed his career and saw him do such amazing things with his life.
My deepest sympathy to his family.
Beth Boren
Native Las Vegan: It was so wonderful to see a Las Vegas entertainer who loves Jesus. He will be missed.
Danny was a wonderful performer and person. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
I have seen Danny’s show several times.
What a terrific entertainer!
What a tragic loss.
Blessings to his family.
I write this with a sadden heart. May God wrap his arms around his wife and children to give them strength to carry on.
Our hearts go out to Danny’s family, friends, and thousands of fans who thought the world of this wonderful human being. We saw him in March and he showed the drawing his daughter made of an airplane, which is where she thought daddy was. And that, he said, was when he decided to change his life and stay in Las Vegas instead of travelling all over. His stories of his family who he deeply loved will long be remembered as will his wonderful, warm and inviting self.
Very sudden, very sad … tragic.
Our Hearts go out to Danny’s family! RIP
Danny,
Thanks for all the Memories, You will be Missed God Bless
Vegas will never be the same without you. God Bless
Vegas will never be the same, God Bless You.

This is very sad news. Mr Gans was an extremely talented and entertaining man, he will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers to his family during this difficult time
I saw Danny with my ex wife at the Stratesphere in 1996. He was simply awsome and genuine. I had the pleasure of seeing Danny last November again at The Mirage. You only got better with age Danny. My heart goes soo out to your wife, children and family. It’s just not fair sometimes, is it? May you rest in eternal peace. You will never be forgotten. Sincerly,
Steve Gold
Wow! I am so shocked at the news of Danny’s death. Only the good die young–and Danny was very, very good! What a showman! We just never know when…safe passages Danny! xoxo
Danny Gans was a fantastic performer and will be missed by me and millions of other fans. My heartfelt prayers go out to his family and friends who, along with his faith were the core of his life.
I can honestly say that If it were not for Danny’s success, I would probably not be working today as a singing impressionist in Las Vegas(or in the corporate world). The first time I visited Las Vegas in 1996 to research the venues, the city and shows, I saw Danny Gans at the Stratosphere and was amazed by his variety of voices and his show.
As a fellow ‘Singing’ impressionist, I have always been glad to see the model of his one-man show go through the roof and while our material is quite different, my show’s format is influenced by Danny’s model of ‘hit and run’ using a large multitude of short musical segments and lots of song parodies packed into every show in order to get more voices in . Even though is truly an honor, I am upset by the circumstance that would somehow suddenly make your mine be the longest running (albeit on a much smaller scale) impressionist show in Las Vegas (7 years).
As an Impressionist and Las Vegas entertainer, I can only hope to touch the surface of creating a legacy like his. In the meantime, like Danny, I’ll just keep doing what I love. Especially for the reason I have survived ‘terminal cancer’, drowning, and kidney failure; I am shocked and deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Las Vegas’ all-time top performers. I hope to meet him in heaven one day to say “Thank You Danny Gans, for bringing so much joy to so many people!”
RIP my friend.
All my best,
Larry G Jones
I met you back in 1990 when I picked you up at the Montreal airport for you to do a preformance for Jostens. You and I had a ton of things in common, formaer baseball player, recently married, etc., and had a great conversation on the way to the event. I have followed your career since then and i was “sad” to hear of your passing! I hope that you are singing and doing your impersonations for the man upstairs now.
God Bless you and your wife and children.
So sorry to hear of his demise. Prayers for his family
WOW! I saw Danny twice in the past 5 years and was amazed at his entertainment abilities but also to speak out about his love of God in what is ironically referred to as “Sin City”. It was very refreshing and still gave me hope for America and her values! Danny will be greatly missed! Our prayers go out to his family.

It seems we have lost so many of the super talented in entertainment way too soon. Danny Gans was definitely a part of that elite club. My wife and I looked forward to seeing him each time we traveled to Las Vegas. We will truly miss his gifted talent and our hearts and prayers go out to his wife, children and those closest to him for this untimely loss. This will be a tremendous void in the circle of entertainment that Las Vegas offers and highly unlikely to be ever duplicated.

Danny now rests in the arms of his Savior and Lord Jesus- his voice will now sing out in eternal praise joined by a chorus of angels.
I am stunned and saddened by Danny’s passing. He was with us for to short a time. He was a throw back in entertainment, where I would not be afraid to take my children to see him. His passing will leave a huge hole in the Vegas scene. God gained a wonderfully talented man. One I look forward to meeting one day.
WE HAVE SEEN DANNY AT LEAST 10 TIMES AND LOVED HIM VERY MUCH. HE WAS A GREAT ENTERTAINER BUT ALSO HE WAS A GOOD PERSON. OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH HIS FAMILY AND HIS SHOW FAMILY.
My wife and I saw Danny two years ago at the Mirage. It was the best show that I ever saw, I was in a mesmerized. Danny you will be missed our prayers go out to you and your family.
Danny Gans was almost too good to be true. In 1934 Cole Porter wrote a song that in my opinion belongs to Danny Gans entitled, “You’re the top.” Once in a while someone comes along that is not like any other and is given the title of being the Top. Danny Gans was such a person and provided so much to so many people over time. When he performed his impression of Henry Fonda in “On Golden Pond”, it was so good that it was almost as if Henry Fonda was impersonating Danny Gans doing Henry Fonda. Danny’s demise has created a void that may never be filled. One thing for sure is that he will be missed for as long as people have the ability to remember.
We had the honor of seeing Danny Gans perform several years ago when we were in Vegas..What an awesome show.. our heartfelt sympathies to his family. We will keep them in our prayers.May the legacy that Danny left behind give you comfort during these trying times. God speed
Prayers to his family. Saw him only once, and he just made me happy for a long, long time.
My father had told me many times how great Danny Gans was. I finnaly got to see Danny in Feb. When I returned home I told everyone seeing Danny’s show was the best part of my trip. I was looking foward to seeing Danny again in the future. Danny you will be missed.
Can’t believe it happen. I tired to see him 6 times prior to this. We are returnin to Vegas with fellow Lion Club members and I was on the internet going to purchase tickets. I’m sorry I never got to catch his act. Now Martin, Sinatra and the rest of his act and thank him for making them live on. Much luck at you new address Dan
He will be sorely missed by all of his fans. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends who knew him and loved him.
May God watch over his family during this time.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this very difficult time. His passing was much too early
To the Gans family, so sorry for your loss. I saw Danny perform in March this year, so much talent and I enjoyed how he freely expressed his love for his family. My thoughts and prayers go out to you at this difficult time.
God bless you Danny and your beautiful family, I cried today. I know you are well taken care of. Be at peace Danny.
Our prayers and thoughts go to his family, children and friends. We were just at the Wynn this last weekend and his image and spirit where everywhere in Vegas. I had seen him perform at the Mirage some years ago and his energy and humour will be greatly missed. Our prayers and sympathy. Very unfortunate, shocking and sad.
Had the pleasure of seeing him twice. Great entertainer—great guy. May you claim your place in heaven Danny!!!…Jack
My deepest sympathy to his family. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. What a tragic loss. I write this with a sadden heart.
It’s a hard thing to lose anyone, much too early, like Danny. My heart goes out to his family. I remember first knowing of him in a “People To Watch” item in a Time Magazine, of the late 90’s. I cut out that clipping, tacked it to the noteboard in my office as an inspiration…I too, perform in that capacity, so it stayed there as a daily reminder of his rise in popularity for the next decade. I never met Danny, but he must have been someone very special to everyone he did meet. I know now I’ll always miss having the chance to meet him. Peace and comfort to all who knew him.
We 1st saw Danny at the Stratosphere when he was getting started…WOW what an entertainer…and HOW he loved his family. Saw his show EVEY time we visited Vegas…it just won’t be the same without him. Sending prayers of love, healing & strength to his family. We are so sorry for your loss.
Thank you to the Gans family for sharing Danny with his fans. Our prayers are with you. We will miss his talent.
After all of these years(10+) of seeing Danny’s face everywhere and wanting to see his show. My husband and I took my mom two weeks ago today to enjoy his show that was memorable. It was of great shock to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family that he so fondly shared about with us at his show. He will be missed as one of those great names and faces of Las Vegas. Thanks for the laughs.

Our family recently took a trip to Vegas in March this year. We went our last night in town to see his show. My wife and I as well as our daughter enjoyed the show immensely and I loved his “Rocky” impersonation. I feel blessed to have seen him and I know that he is in a better place today. I sincerely hope his wife and children will be comforted by that thought. The world has lost another “GREAT” entertainer.
The Vegas strip will shine a little less bright now that Danny has passed. He will be fondly remembered as a true gentlemen and familyman. Prayers to his family in this dark time. He now rests in a better place. His star will continue to shine on. God Bless

I was stunned, shocked & crying when I heard this soooooooo sad news. I just raved about Danny’s show to my family that hadn’t seen him yet, so much, that we all flew across the country from Maryland to The Encore theatre this past end of March to see him. I was in Vegas 8 times this past year and saw Danny 3 times. He will be missed terribly by many, young & old alike. My sincere & deepest condolences go out to his wonderful family that he praised at the end of every show.Life is just not fair when God takes such a young, strong, fit, intelligent, uniquely talented, grateful & humble man as Danny. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Gans family and friends. My husband and I saw Danny in Vegas and thought he was one of the greatest acts there. I would rate him much more entertaining than Newton and he didn’t need to curse or be vulgar to totally entertain you. I am shocked at his passing at such a young age, but God must have needed a good laugh more than us these days.
I was very shocked to hear of the passing of Danny, I just recently seen him on the Bonnie Hunt show and found him to be a profound performer with many talents. Deepest sympathy to his wife and children.

Danny Gans was such a talented entertainer. You didn’t want his show to end, but sadly now it has, forever. My prayers & heartfelt sympathy go out to Mrs. Gans & his children, whom he spoke of so lovingly in his shows. He will be missed but he will never be forgotten.
I send my sympathy. Danny was a good man and entertained so many people for many years. what a tradgic and early death. May God be with his family during this most difficult time.
