Death Summary: Carl Pohlad died on January 5, 2009 at the age of 93 from natural causes. Sadly he died less than a year from the opening of the new Twins stadium, Target Field.
Who was Carl Pohlad : Pohlad was a successful financier and owner of the Minnesota Twins.
He bought the team back in 1984, and just three years later (1987) the Twins won the World Series and proceeded to win it again in 1991.
Pohlad claims that he came close to selling the team in 1997, which would’ve seen the team move to North Carolina, but the deal fell through with lack of interest from the area.
Pohald was also a partial owner of the Minnesota Vikings from the mid 1980’s to 1991.
