During his college days Jeter was a halfback for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He still holds a few records for the Rose Bowl, 194 yards on just nine carries; one of those carries was an 81-yard touchdown, which is the other record. He was named MVP of the 1959 Rose Bowl.
During his eleven year career in the NFL Jeter compiled 26 interceptions for 333 yards and two touchdowns.
After his NFL playing days were over, Jeter became involved in the Chicago Park District helping in coordination citywide sporting events for children.
