Death Summary: Bettie Page was hospitalized on December 6, 2008 and was deemed to be in critical condition. There were mixed reports for the hospitalization, which ranged from a heart attack to pneumonia.
On December 11, 2008 Page’s family agreed to discontinue life support, she died at 6:41 PST. Page was buried at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.
Who was Bettie Page : Page was a model who became infamous for her 1950’s fetish modeling and pin-up photos. She was also one of the earliest Playmates of the Month for Playboy magazine.
Page got into modeling when she met Jerry Tibbs, a police officer with an interest in photography. The two worked together and created a pinup portfolio.
Soon after Page became the poster girl for “camera clubs”, which were essentially clubs that allowed you to take nude photos for “artistic” purposes… but they were just a front for pornography. By 1951 Page had her image in most men’s magazines, and the sensation was born.
Page ended her modeling career around 1959 when she converted to Christianity while living in Key West, Florida.
