Death Summary: Bernard Jeffrey "Bernie Mac" McCullough died on August 9, 2008 from complications due to pneumonia, which was most likely brought on by his sarcoidosis, something he suffered with since 1983.
Mac was hospitalized on August 1, 2008 with pneumonia. The following day the doctors informed his family that he was in “very, very critical condition. Mac’s publicist released a statement that said “he is expected to make a full recovery and that he was responding well to treatment”.

Who was Bernie Mac : Mac got his start as a stand-up comedian in Chicago’s Cotton Pickin’ Club. At the age of 32 he won the Miller Lite Comedy Search, this is when he started to develop a fan base.
He started acting when he was offered the role of Pastor Clever in Ice Cube’s 1995 film Friday. Following his breakout success of that film he was cast into several other smaller roles including Booty Call, How to Be a Player, Life and What’s the Worst That Could Happen?.
Fox gave Mac his own television show in 2001, which was entitled The Bernie Mac Show. It was somewhat based upon his own life. The show was somewhat of a success.
On March 19, 2007 Mac told David Letterman that he was going to retire from his career just as soon as he was finished shooting his latest comedy, The Whole Truth, Nothing but the Truth, So Help me Mac. He went on to say, "I'm going to still do my producing, my films, but I want to enjoy my life a little bit…I missed a lot of things, you know".

Hello Fsmily, I am deeply sorrowed for you/our lose. I pray for us all and pray that the jouney to a better place in easy, I pray for us all for the laugher and smiles and all that bernie put in and out of our lives. I was truly shocked and dismayed to hear of the passing of the most hilarious comedian I have ever watched - Bernie Mac. My heart sank when I heard the words of his death muttered by a stranger next to me at the bar. What a loss! The news was so upsetting that I couldnt bring myself to stay and watch the fight I had gone there for in the first place. I could watch Bernie all day long. He brought humor and laughter to my life and I will be forever grateful. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family! He will be forever missed!

I don’t know what to say. Bernie was the most coolest person ever. I have all his shows and movies and it hurt me when I learn what happen. I was blown away and I was just telling a friend that him and samual Jackson standing in my front yard in Louisiana not to long ago. He just made you feel like he was one of us. I feel like he did his part down here on earth and now our sweet god has called him home to make him smile and give him laughter. Bernie MAC was a consummate comedian (did I stump you with the big woid lol), the Mac was DA BOMB on his self-titled show, and I enjoyed watching him and fellow actor Isaac Hayes in “Soul Men.” (Yes, Hayes died the next day after Bernie) I love the Bernie Mac Show and also liked him in “Guess Who? and his earlier role in “Above the Rim” with the late Tupac. To anyone who dares to dis the Mac…well “KISS MY WHITE MEAT, AMERICA!!!”
