She was cremated and her ashes were scattered in the countryside close to Sawrey.

Who was Beatrix Potter : Beatrix is known for her time-honored children's books which featured characters such as Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Benjamin Bunny, Johnny Town-Mouse, and Little Pig Robinson.

When many may not know about Potter, is that she was also something of a scientist, considered an expert in mycology. She was actually one of the first people to make the connection that lichens were a symbiotic relationship between fungi and algae.

    Beatrix Potter was truly a woman ahead of her time. Not only was she a talented storyteller, her illustrations were perfect. Her stories for children are timeless and enjoyed by generation after generation. Leaving her estate to the National Trust was magnificent and generous. What a marvelous person!
