On September 6th, 2012, Art Modell passed away due to natural causes. Modell was 87 years of age.

Art Modell was a well-known NFL franchiser and team owner from Brooklyn, New York. He is known for his ownership of The Cleveland Browns (1961–1995) and The Baltimore Ravens (1996–2004) professional football teams.

Modell bought his first football team (The Cleveland Browns) in 1961 after being active in an advertising career. After moving to Maryland in 1996, Art Modell bought the Ravens, and led them into Super Bowl XXXV in 2000; however, after many financial pitfalls, Modell sold the Ravens football to Maryland businessman Steve Bisciotti.
