Death Summary: Armstrong died after a long battle with cancer, she was 80. For almost a full week leading up to her death, she had been in a Houston-area hospice.

Who was Anne Armstrong : Anne Armstrong was the first female Counselor to the President for both Ford and Nixon. She also served as the Vice Chairman of the Texas Republican Party from 1966 to 1968.

In 1971 she became the Co-Chairman of the Republican National Committee. The following year she was the keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention, she was the first woman keynote speaker for either big political party.

Armstrong would go on to become the first woman United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom in 1976. That same year an effort was put into place to place Armstrong as the Vice Presidential candidate on the ticket with incumbent Gerald Ford.

The Armstrong family name popped back up in the spotlight in February 2006. The reason was Vice President Dick Cheney shot a hunting buddy in the face on the Armstrong family ranch in south Texas.

    A dear lady, who I came to know through my boss, Nancy Brown Negley. She heard my dear mother was very sick and wrote me some beautiful notes of comfort. Later, Mother got better and was able to read these notes herself.
